Foreign Minister meets Yunnan Governor to discuss closer cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam met with the Governor of Yunnan Province, Wang Yubo, during her official visit to China, where discussions focused on strengthening ties and expanding cooperation between the Maldives and Yunnan Province.

During the meeting, Minister Iruthisham expressed appreciation for the invitation to participate in the Seventh China-South Asia Cooperation Forum and the Tenth China-South Asia Expo. She noted that the visit marked her first official trip to China since assuming office as Foreign Minister and reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to further deepening its longstanding friendship and close partnership with China.

The Minister also highlighted the importance President Dr Mohamed Muizzu places on enhancing bilateral relations between the Maldives and China.

The two sides also discussed the close relationship between the Maldives and Yunnan Province. Minister Iruthisham conveyed gratitude for the support and assistance extended by the province towards the Maldives over the years.

Governor Wang reaffirmed Yunnan Province's commitment to supporting the Maldives' social and economic development and expressed hope for expanding cooperation and strengthening ties with the Maldives in the future.

The meeting was attended by the Maldives' Ambassador to China, Dr Fazeel Najeeb; Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amin Javid Faizal; Director Maryam Bassama Farooq; and Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Maldives in China, Mizna Waheed.
