State Trading Organisation (STO) has said onions remain available for sale at MVR 13 per kilogram amid reports on social media of shortages and rising prices.

In a statement issued to the media, STO said it continues to have sufficient onion stocks and that the commodity is being sold at the same price as before.

The company issued the clarification following reports circulating on social media regarding difficulties in obtaining onions and claims of higher market prices.

STO said wholesale onion supplies will also be distributed next week to ensure continued availability. The company added that arrangements are being made to stock onions at STO regional outlets across the country.
