The Kudafari Beach Conservation Project in the Maldives, aimed at protecting the island’s shoreline from erosion, is now 57 per cent complete, according to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
As of the latest update, 35 per cent of the geobag filling work has been finished, while 21 per cent of the geobag installation is complete. The project involves the construction of a 610-metre geobag revetment and a 220-metre groin to prevent further coastal erosion, which threatens both the local environment and the community’s way of life.
Valued at MVR 17.8 million, the project was mobilised in August 2023. The scope of work includes the construction of vital coastal infrastructure to protect the shoreline, with MTCC working towards meeting the planned deadlines for completion.
The Kudafari Beach Conservation Project is part of ongoing efforts to mitigate the effects of coastal erosion and safeguard the local community’s sustainability along with preserving the island’s natural beauty.
