Parliament's Government Oversight Committee has approved the appointment of Hassan Zareer as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu submitted the nomination to Parliament following Zareer's appointment to the post, and the matter was referred to the committee for review.

Zareer was appointed as Finance Minister on 8 June after the resignation of former Finance Minister Moosa Zameer.

Prior to taking office, Zareer served as Commissioner General of Taxation. A qualified chartered accountant, he has more than two decades of experience in taxation, auditing and public finance, having worked in the public sector since 2000.

With the committee's endorsement, Zareer's appointment will now be presented to the full Parliament for a vote on final approval.
