Zakat Fund provides MVR 2.5 million to support bone marrow transplants for thalassaemia patients

The Maldives Zakat House has contributed MVR 2.5 million from the Zakat Fund to support bone marrow transplants for patients with thalassaemia.

Zakat House has revealed that the funds were transferred to the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) on Sunday.

The financial assistance is provided under a memorandum of understanding signed on 21 February 2024 between the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments and the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare. Under the agreement, the Zakat Fund provides annual financial support for bone marrow transplants for children with thalassaemia.

The Zakat Fund had been providing financial assistance for bone marrow transplants for thalassaemia patients on various occasions since 2014.
