The Maldives Police Service and the United States Department of Homeland Security have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in combating transnational crime.

The agreement was signed between the police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The MoU aims to enhance cooperation in addressing crimes that cross international borders and strengthen collaboration between law enforcement agencies.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Department of Homeland Security by Regional Attaché Earl Mattear, while Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed signed on behalf of the Maldives Police Service.

Under the MoU, both parties have agreed to cooperate through consultations on matters of mutual interest, the exchange of information, and joint efforts to prevent and investigate transnational criminal offences.

The Maldives Police Service said the agreement is expected to strengthen efforts to enhance public safety and security, improve investigative capabilities, combat cross-border crime, and address emerging security threats through closer cooperation between the two agencies.
