The Maldives Correctional Service has launched a joint search operation at Hulhumalé Prison in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service.

The Correctional Service said the operation began on Wednesday as part of a joint effort with the police. However, no further details regarding the operation or its objectives have been disclosed.

The latest operation comes two days after the Correctional Service and police carried out a similar search operation at Maafushi Prison.

Maafushi Prison has previously been the subject of similar search operations targeting prohibited items, suspected scam-related activities and actions believed to facilitate terrorism.

The Government has been undertaking a number of initiatives to strengthen security across the country's prison system while expanding prison capacity.

As part of these efforts, the first full-body scanner at Maafushi Prison was installed and brought into operation in February this year to enhance screening procedures and prevent prohibited items from entering the facility.
