Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has said the Government's efforts to combat drug trafficking are expected to achieve full results next year.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service, the minister said the coming year will also focus on removing young people from gang environments and supporting their reintegration into society.
He said the Government will intensify efforts to identify and deport undocumented migrants, with plans to remove around 2,000 foreigners who are living in the Maldives without proper documentation.
Minister Ihusaan also noted that technology will play a greater role in policing, with more officers deployed on the streets to strengthen public safety and maintain peace.
Highlighting the importance of public confidence in law enforcement, the minister said the police service's greatest asset is the trust placed in it by the people. He added that this trust must be upheld through integrity, fairness, accountability, professionalism and respect for the public.
