President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the Government remains committed to improving the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry network to provide a faster and more efficient service that meets public expectations.

The President made the remarks during Monday's press briefing while responding to a question regarding delays in the nationwide rollout of the RTL ferry service.

President Dr Muizzu explained that the nationwide expansion had been delayed due to challenges arising from the conflict in the Middle East, which required the Government to reprioritise public expenditure. He added that the Government remains committed to completing the rollout across the country.

The President said the Government's priority is to develop the RTL ferry network into a reliable public transport service that delivers the standard of service expected by the public.

The RTL ferry network currently operates across 15 atolls, serving 145 islands using 35 ferries. An additional 12 ferries are under construction.

The Government has stated that once nationwide RTL ferry network is completed, the next phase will focus on establishing ferry links between atolls and connecting transport zones.
