Theft and drug-related cases top police reports in June

The Maldives Police Service has revealed that theft and drug-related offences were the most commonly reported crimes in June.

Police statistics released for the month show that a total of 1,028 cases were reported.

Of the total, 319 were theft cases, followed by 242 drug-related cases and 195 traffic accidents. Police also recorded 82 lost property cases, 58 cases of property damage, 55 fraud and deception cases, 25 sexual offence cases, 25 breach of trust cases, 19 domestic violence cases, 7 robbery cases, and 2 forgery cases.

Police statistics show that theft cases declined in June compared to May. While 338 theft cases were reported in May, the figure fell to 319 in June.

The number of traffic accidents also decreased during the same period, dropping from 249 cases in May to 195 in June. However, drug-related cases increased compared to the previous month.

Police have been carrying out various operations to curb theft and robbery, while continuing efforts to raise public awareness on preventing crime, traffic accidents, and other offences.
