Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed has said the true measure of success in policing is the trust and safety felt by the public, rather than rank or medals.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 42nd Basic Police Training Course, the Commissioner urged newly graduated officers to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism and public service throughout their careers.
He said the knowledge and skills gained during training should guide officers in carrying out their duties, adding that the police uniform represents safety and reassurance for people in times of fear and uncertainty.
The Commissioner stressed that policing extends beyond enforcing the law, noting that officers must also serve with compassion and help build public confidence in the institution.
He reminded officers to uphold the honour and dignity of the police service and to remain mindful of their responsibilities in serving the public.
Ahmed Mohamed also called on the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement to further strengthen its training programmes, expressing hope that the upcoming 43rd Basic Police Training Course would incorporate more modern teaching methods and practical training.
He thanked President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for supporting the development of the police service, including efforts to modernise the institution and improve its resources. The Commissioner also expressed appreciation to the college's instructors and staff for their contribution to training the new officers.
