President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to ensure fishermen are paid within 48 hours for their catch continues to be implemented, with the Government-owned Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) disbursing more than MVR 11.3 million to fishermen in June.

MIFCO stated that a total of MVR 11,332,391 was paid to 517 fishing vessels during the month.

The company said it purchased 568 tonnes of fish in June. Of this, 484.4 tonnes comprised skipjack tuna, for which MVR 9.36 million was paid to 196 fishing vessels.

MIFCO also paid MVR 331,440 to 109 vessels for large yellowfin tuna weighing more than 10 kilograms, while 212 vessels received MVR 1.67 million for yellowfin tuna weighing over 15 kilograms.

The Government has continued to honour President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to pay fishermen for their catch within 48 hours, with payments being made accordingly.

Meanwhile, under the Government's initiative to provide fuel to fishermen at affordable prices, arrangements have now been made for fishermen in all atolls except two to purchase fuel at STO rates.
