Asphalt has been laid on three roads under a project to develop unfinished roads in residential areas of Hulhumalé Phase I and Phase II.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said the project covers six roads in Hulhumalé, including five unfinished roads in Phase I and one road near the Vinares flats in Phase II, covering a total of 1.1 kilometres. The project was awarded to China's Rotime Engineering and Technology in December last year.

HDC said asphalt works have been completed on three roads, including the road behind Apollo Flats, the road next to One Central Park Residence and the road next to Reethigas Residence.

Work is now progressing on the road near the Vinares flats in Phase II, towards the former Farukolhufushi area. Sub-base works on the road have been completed, with asphalt paving now underway.

HDC said walkway works, planting strips and streetlight installation are continuing on the roads where asphalt works have been completed. A modern drainage system has also been installed, while the roads are being developed to ensure accessibility for wheelchair users.

The corporation said 46 per cent of the overall project has now been completed.

Repair works on damaged roads in Hulhumalé are also being carried out under the project, with 30 per cent of those works completed so far.

Once completed, all unfinished roads in Hulhumalé Phase I will be asphalted, along with roads in the Vinares area and other commonly used roads. HDC said the project will provide greater convenience for both pedestrians and motorists.
