The Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee has approved the appointment of Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed as the Maldives' Ambassador to the European Union (EU) and Belgium.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu submitted Dhiyana's nomination to Parliament earlier this month, after which it was referred to the committee for review. Following its assessment, the committee unanimously concluded that she was qualified for the post and endorsed her appointment.

Dhiyana previously served as Attorney General during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed. She later served as Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights under former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.

She was appointed Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in April 2026 before being nominated for the diplomatic posting.
