Hulhumalé Hospital is set to introduce a range of new services before July 26 in efforts to expand healthcare services for the island's growing population, Malé City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem has said.

Speaking on a State media programme, CEO Haleem said preparations are underway to launch the new services before July 26, in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge in this year's Presidential Address to further strengthen services at Hulhumalé Hospital. 

The new services include outpatient gastroenterology, urology, electroencephalography (EEG), a neurology clinic and glaucoma treatment. CEO Haleem said the expansion would allow Hulhumalé residents to access specialist care closer to home instead of travelling to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

He added that the hospital is also preparing to introduce gold-standard blood screening tests, which will significantly reduce the turnaround time for detecting infections such as HIV. Work is also underway to further strengthen cancer treatment services at the hospital.

The expansion builds on a series of upgrades carried out over the past two years to address space constraints and increase capacity at Hulhumalé Hospital. These include the development of a modern four-theatre operating complex, a 10-bed intensive care unit (ICU), a 14-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and an increase in emergency department beds from seven to 14. The hospital has also expanded its dialysis services by increasing the number of dialysis beds.
