In 2024, FENAKA Corporation made significant progress in expanding essential services, launching water services in 21 islands and sewerage services in four islands despite financial challenges.
The company emphasised that basic services cannot be delayed or compromised and remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted service across the islands it serves.
Building on this commitment, FENAKA now provides water and sewerage services to a total of 107 islands, with 31,092 water connections currently in place and freshwater production systems capable of producing 10,661 tonnes per day.
As part of ongoing improvements, five islands increased their water production capacity by 564 tonnes per day in 2024, while 360 newly settled housing units were connected to water services.
To ensure the sustainability of these services, a standardised billing system was introduced in September 2024 across 22 previously unbilled islands to ensure sustainable service delivery.
Beyond water and sewerage infrastructure, FENAKA also advanced its in-house solar programme in 2024. The initiative is expected to save over MVR 19 million annually by reducing dependency on diesel fuel.
