NDMA conducts flood damage assessment on 98 houses in Malé

Heavy rainfall and flooding on January 3, 2025

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has conducted an assessment of 98 houses damaged by heavy rains and flooding that hit Malé City on January 3, 2025.

Speaking to local media, NDMA Chief Executive Hisan Hassan stated that the authority's immediate priority was to ensure the safety of affected residents by evacuating them from flooded homes.

As part of this effort, A total of 226 individuals from 35 households were provided with temporary shelter and food assistance.

The NDMA announced that detailed assessments of the flooding would commence on January 5, 2025.

The heavy rainfall and flooding on January 3 caused widespread disruption, severely impacting daily life and placing significant strain on infrastructure.

While Malé City bore the brunt of the damage, other regions of the Maldives, including Nilandhoo and Himmafushi, also experienced substantial flooding and property damage.
