Second wide-body A330 to join Maldivian fleet in October: President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a second wide-body Airbus A330-200 aircraft will join the fleet of Maldivian, the national airline, in October 2025.
The announcement was made during the inauguration ceremony of the first wide-body aircraft operations in the Maldives, marking a major milestone in the country's aviation and tourism sectors on January 6, 2025.
Highlighting this achievement as a fulfilment of his campaign vision, the President described the addition of wide-body aircraft as the beginning of a transformative era for the Maldives. He emphasised that the expanded operations of Maldivian will play a vital role in enhancing tourism and bolstering the economy. By adding new destinations to the airline’s network, the initiative is expected to significantly boost connectivity, enabling direct flights to major international markets.
President Dr Muizzu underscored the strategic importance of retaining control over the aviation sector, noting its critical role in driving progress for both tourism and aviation industries. He praised the collaborative efforts of Island Aviation Services (IAS) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) in overcoming challenges to achieve rapid advancements in the sector.
Calling 2025 a year of development and potential, the President assured the public of upcoming progress in economic, social, and infrastructure areas. He reaffirmed his Administration's commitment to achieving comprehensive and balanced development that upholds the Maldives’ stability, independence, and sovereignty.
