A car accident occurred at Velana International Airport after the driver reportedly suffered a heart attack, according to a statement from Aviators Maldives on behalf of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

The Maldives Police Service confirmed receiving an alert about the incident at 9:45 a.m., after which officers were swiftly dispatched to the scene. The car is reported to have struck a road divider, collided with a van, and subsequently hit the rear of a pickup truck before coming to a stop.

The driver sustained injuries during the accident and was immediately transported to Hulhumalé Hospital for urgent medical treatment. A passenger seated in the back of the car also sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the airport clinic, according to police reports.

Velana International Airport is a highly controlled traffic zone, and such incidents are extremely rare within its premises.
