President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at driving forward the development of Gaafu Dhaalu Nadellaa.

During his visit to the island on January 7, 2025, as part of a three day tour across Huvadhu Atoll, the President highlighted significant projects to be launched this year to address the island’s growing needs.

One of the key developments is the construction of a new harbour, with the President confirming that a contractor would be appointed by the end of the month. The existing harbour, built in 2008, is no longer sufficient to meet the island's demands and faces challenges with erosion and tidal damage. The new harbour will be designed to address these environmental concerns while enhancing the island's infrastructure.

The President also outlined other critical projects, including the construction of a modern mosque, as well as efforts to alleviate the space constraints at the local school and health centre. For the youth of Nadellaa, the Government plans to begin the construction of sports facilities, such as a football ground, futsal courts, and volleyball courts, along with a youth centre. Additionally, an agreement was signed with the local council to introduce ATMs, improving financial accessibility for residents.

Addressing concerns over security, President Dr Muizzu assured the community that police services would be extended to Nadellaa, ending its status as the only island in Huvadhoo Atoll without a dedicated police presence.

The President reassured residents that his Administration would continue to work closely with the local council to address the island’s needs and expressed hope that the community would continue to support these efforts.
