The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has awarded a contract to the Sri Lankan company N-able Private Limited to conduct a comprehensive study aimed at strengthening the capacity of the National Computer Network (NCN).

This initiative is part of the Digital Maldives for Adaptation, Decentralisation, and Diversification (DMADD) project, implemented by the Ministry with grant assistance from the World Bank.

The project aims to upgrade the National Computer Network (NCN) using Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technology, a secure and efficient network solution designed to connect branch offices across different geographic locations via the internet.

While SD-WAN technology shows significant potential for securely linking Government agencies, branch offices, and local councils through a unified network, a comprehensive study is required to evaluate its technical and financial feasibility.

To carry out this assessment, the Ministry has awarded a contract to N-able, with a completion timeline of four months.

The NCN, established by the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT) and the Local Government Authority, serves as a critical infrastructure designed to digitise services, facilitate secure data sharing, and enhance coordination among island councils, branch offices, and various Government agencies.
