Maldives Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon arrived in India for a three-day official visit, where he was accorded a red carpet welcome in the capital.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh greeted him with a ceremonial reception, underscoring the importance of the Maldives in India’s regional strategy.
During high-level discussions between senior defence officials of both countries, India reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Maldives in strengthening its defence capabilities.
Collaborative efforts such as training programmes, joint exercises, workshops, seminars, and the provision of defence equipment were highlighted as key areas of partnership.
The visit also includes stops at significant Indian defence facilities, including Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd in Mumbai and a shipyard in Goa. These visits reflect the growing cooperation between the two nations in enhancing their defence ties.
India’s Neighbourhood First Policy continues to prioritise peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region, with the Maldives playing a central role. The discussions and engagements during this visit are expected to lead to further collaboration, contributing to both nations' shared security objectives and regional stability.
