President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the North Huvadhu Atoll Maamendhoo Island Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Wednesday evening at the Maamendhoo Council Secretariat to address critical infrastructure needs and development priorities.
During the meeting, Council members raised urgent infrastructure challenges, particularly highlighting residents' concerns about the island's sanitation system and severe coastal erosion problems. They also emphasised the pressing need for a new Council administrative building to improve operational efficiency.
The Council put forward several key requests, including the implementation of a road development project and the construction of a social centre for the community. Officials also sought to expand their jurisdiction to include neighbouring Hulhimendhoo island, aiming to create new revenue streams for the community. Another significant request was the expansion of the island's Health Centre to provide 24-hour services.
In response, President Dr Muizzu assured the Council that he would fulfil his pledges, and their concerns would be thoroughly addressed.
