The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, to set priorities for the upcoming year and elect its leadership for the 2024/25 term.

Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz was re-elected as President, alongside Mohamed Khaleel and Mohamed Shaz, who will continue as Vice Presidents. Other key roles also saw continuity, with Abdulla Suood re-elected as Secretary General and Ibrahim Didi as Treasurer. Returning board members Ignaz Mansoor and Ibrahim Nizam were joined by newly elected members Ahmed Arshad, Mohamed Mauroof, and Asad Riza.

The meeting included a review of the organisation’s recent activities and challenges facing the travel and tourism industry. Discussions centred on addressing the needs of travel agents and tour operators while adapting to changes in the sector. Delegates also discussed the importance of maintaining collaboration among stakeholders to support the Maldives’ tourism economy.

MATATO, established in 2006, continues to play a role in engaging with industry players and contributing to the development of tourism in the Maldives.
