The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has scheduled a major upgrade to its power network on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 6:00 a.m to 8:00 a.m.

The work involves the energisation of a 132 kV High Voltage Substation in Hulhumalé Phase 2, a key step in strengthening the reliability and capacity of the electricity grid.

The upgrade may result in an hour long temporary power outages in some areas of Malé and Hulhumalé during the specified period. STELCO explained that the interruptions are necessary to facilitate the energisation process, which is essential to modernise the power network and accommodate the growing energy demands of the Greater Malé region.

Residents and businesses are advised to prepare for potential disruptions and take necessary precautions. STELCO apologised for any inconvenience caused and expressed gratitude to the public for their patience during this critical maintenance work.
