Fenaka Corporation Limited announced that electricity services in 46 islands require improvement to prevent power outages during Ramadan, supporting President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge for uninterrupted service.
Mohamed Najah, Managing Director of Fenaka, revealed on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme that practical work has begun with the Finance and Environment Ministries to procure generators and necessary maintenance parts.
President Dr Muizzu, during his recent visit to GDh. Fiyoari, emphasised completing the installations within two months, ensuring island-wide power stability during Ramadan.
The corporation disclosed that most of their 500-plus generator sets were inoperable when the current Government assumed office, citing lack of maintenance as the primary cause of widespread outages.
The rehabilitation project is structured in two phases – overhauling 41 generators in the first phase and 79 in the second. Najah highlighted that many generators are operating at an "unacceptable" 50 per cent efficiency due to previous neglect.
Fenaka is prioritising repairs over new purchases, as most existing generators can be fully restored through proper maintenance. The corporation plans to implement long-term solutions throughout the coming year.
