Fenaka Corporation Limited announced that a quick solution to power outages in the connected islands of Addu Atoll will be implemented within 48 hours.
Speaking on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme, Mohamed Najah, Managing Director of Fenaka, said resolving Addu's power disruptions is the company's top priority. One generator will be operational by Wednesday morning, with a second to follow within 48 hours.
The primary cause of frequent outages is prolonged lack of maintenance, resulting in five generators being completely shut down. Fenaka is currently repairing one generator with assistance from STELCO.
Najah stated that repairing two generators would provide an interim solution for continuous power supply. The company plans to repair two additional generators before Ramadan, when power demand typically increases. Addu's connected islands require 12 megawatts during peak hours, with Hithadhoo housing generators capable of producing 26.8 megawatts.
The company held discussions on Tuesday with Addu's parliamentary representatives and the Finance Ministry regarding the ongoing crisis. The connected islands of Addu have been experiencing persistent power issues for an extended period.
