The Government has refuted claims about potential social media platform restrictions in the country through an official post on X by Heena Waleed, Chief Spokesperson at the President's Office, while urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation.

"The claims suggesting potential blocking of social media platforms are entirely false," Heena stated, emphasising that no such decisions have been made or discussed at the Government level.

The statement comes amid rising speculation on social media regarding possible restrictions on digital communication channels. The President's Office expressed concern over the spread of such misinformation, describing it as "disheartening."

According to the Spokesperson, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's Administration remains committed to protecting citizens' constitutional rights and freedoms. She further reaffirmed the Government's dedication to upholding these fundamental liberties granted under the Constitution of Maldives.
