The passport of the former Managing Director of The State Electric Company (STELCO), Ahmed Shareef, has been impounded as part of an ongoing investigation, sources at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have confirmed.
The passport was seized on January 14, following a court order, according to an ACC official. While the official did not disclose specific details of the case, they confirmed that it is linked to an ongoing inquiry into allegations of corruption.
This development comes as part of investigations into corruption cases involving individuals and corporate executives who held influential positions during the previous MDP regime. ACC and various other agencies are pursuing inquiries into serious corruption allegations against several former officials.
In a related case, the passport of Ahmed Saeed, the former Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, was impounded in October 2024, also in connection with corruption investigations.
