The Parliament has received a nomination for Moomina Waheed, a current member of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM), to serve as the commission's Vice President.

In a letter to the People’s Majilis (Parliament), President Dr Mohamed Muizzu submitted Moomina’s name for consideration and requested the Parliament to make a decision regarding her appointment as Vice President of HRCM. During today's extraordinary parliamentary session, the matter was referred to the Parliament's Human Rights and Gender Committee for review.

Moomina was initially appointed as a member of HRCM on September 8, 2020. She holds a master’s degree in human Rights and Democratisation (Asia Pacific) from the University of Sydney, Australia. Her professional experience includes serving as a consultant at the Ministry of Economic Development.
