Maldives welcomes 90,500+ tourists, 8 per cent growth recorded

The Maldives has welcomed over 90,500 international tourists as of January 14, 2025, marking an 8 per cent increase in arrivals compared to the same period last year.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, 90,659 visitors have arrived in the island nation, surpassing the 83,966 recorded during the same period in 2024.
The highest daily arrival figure was recorded on January 12, with 8,174 tourists arrivals. Since the start of the year, the Maldives has consistently seen over 5,000 arrivals daily, a trend that highlights the country’s ongoing appeal as a top travel destination.
Russia has emerged as the leading source market for visitors, with 12,920 Russians arriving so far. Italy follows with 10,662 visitors, while the United Kingdom (7,698), China (6,667), and Germany (5,725) complete the top five source countries.
Accommodation data reveals that 70 per cent of visitors, or 63,414 tourists, are staying at resorts, while 25,043 tourists (27.6 per cent ) have chosen hotels and guesthouses. The remaining 2,203 tourists are staying aboard safari vessels.
The Government has set an ambitious target of attracting 2.2 million tourists in 2025, building on last year’s record of 2 million visitors. With a steady rise in arrivals, the Maldives is on track to maintain its status as one of the world’s leading destinations for international travellers.
