Gemanafushi member of Parliament, Asadhulla Shihab, has raised concerns over the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) decision to stage a protest in Malé City on January 31, stating that he sees no valid reason for such action against the current Government.
Speaking on MMTV’s Bodu Habaru programme, MP Asadhulla questioned the necessity of the opposition’s actions. He suggested that the MDP’s protests reflect the opposition’s struggle to accept the widespread public support for the current Administration.
Highlighting his criticisms, the MP pointed out what he described as inconsistencies in the MDP’s positions. He noted MDP's previous opposition to Government measures, such as the ban on the sale and use of vaping products, as an example. MP Asadhulla argued that the opposition had attempted to portray vaping as something harmless, which he found misleading.
MP Asadhulla also expressed concerns over the previous MDP government for what he described as a lack of consistency in its policies, leading to stalled projects when the current Administration took office. He emphasised that such governance had caused disruptions, contrasting it with the present Government’s efforts to maintain the public’s trust.
