Managing Director of the Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Abdul Matheen Mohamed has stated that the construction of the Male'-Hulhumale' water supply system is advancing steadily, confirming that the project is expected to be completed in the second half of this year.

Speaking to local news, Matheen explained that the project is now in full swing, with significant progress made across various components. Work is currently underway in both Male' and Hulhumale' cities to establish a connection between the two areas. The pump station in Male' is already 25 per cent complete, while the pump station in Hulhumale' has reached 60 per cent completion.

In addition, the foundation for the building structure in Hulhumale' is nearing completion. Civil works in both Male' and Hulhumale' are expected to be finished by March, paving the way for the completion of electrical and mechanical work by April. Matheen further stated that all necessary work will be concluded, with the services expected to be operational in the second half of the year.

The 5-kilometre bridge linking Male' and Hulhumale' was built in 2018 through the Sinamale' Bridge project. However, the bridge is not yet in use as the work to complete the service is still ongoing. Efforts are also being made to test the pressure in the system, with temporary setups being created for this purpose.

Currently, 65 per cent of the entire project has been completed. The primary aim of this initiative is to enhance water security in the Greater Male' region, ensuring that water can be easily supplied between the islands if issues arise with the water supply in either Male' or Hulhumale'.
