Police appeal for information on wanted fraud case suspect

Maldives Police Service (MPS) are appealing to the public for information regarding a man wanted in connection with a fraud case.
In a statement, the police urged anyone who recognises the individual or has relevant information to contact the Fuvahmulah City Police Station at 9792803. Despite ongoing investigations, the police have been unable to confirm the suspect's identity.
The authorities expressed their gratitude for the community's support in tackling such crimes and emphasised the importance of public vigilance. They particularly urged senior citizens and their families to exercise caution and remain alert to potential scams.
According to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, fraudulent activities resulted in over MVR 13 million being reported missing in 2024, although MVR 2.2 million was recovered. The police continue their efforts to track down fraudsters, with a special initiative being developed to address scams more effectively.
The police have also reiterated their advice to the public not to share personal details with strangers, especially through unsolicited messages. For any suspicious activity or emergencies, individuals are reminded to contact the police service hotline at 3322111 or the emergency number 119.
