South Henveiru Parliament member (MP) Ahmed Aifan has declared strong public confidence in the Progressive National Congress (PNC), citing growing recognition of the party's commitment to public welfare.

Speaking on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme, MP Aifan highlighted broad political consensus on the Anti-Defection Law, tracing its journey through three administrations.

The legislation, first enacted during President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's term, resulted in twelve MPs losing their seats before being repealed under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government. It has now been reinstated under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's administration, passing through a parliament where Solih's party maintained a super majority.

MP Aifan defended the law's revival, stating it would strengthen parliamentary integrity and underline the government's firm stance against corruption. He dismissed opposition concerns, asserting the legislation would enhance public trust in elected officials.
