Safa Shafeeq has been elected as the new president of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom), following the end of Maryam Waheeda's tenure in December of last year.

Safa Shafeeq has been a member of Broadcom since May 9, 2023. She holds a Master of Arts in Social Policy from the Maldives National University and a Master of Communication from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Malaysia. Her career in media spans over a decade, having presented programmes on TVM since 2006.

The vacant Broadcom positions left by Maryam Waheeda and another outgoing member have also been filled. Mohamed Abdulla, a former member of parliament for Ihavandhoo constituency, and Saraahath Izzath Sidqi, a former Broadcom member, were appointed to the posts. 

Their appointments were confirmed by the Parliament, with Sarahaath receiving 68 votes and Mohamed securing approval with 58 votes.
