Warehouse fire displaces 33 people across 10 households in Malé

A devastating fire has left 33 individuals from 10 households displaced, as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) works to provide temporary shelter for those impacted by smoke and structural damage.
The fire broke out in the early hours of January 22, at MA Spring River, originating from the warehouse belonging to Fruit Tree Apple store on the first floor.
The displaced include 14 Maldivians and 19 foreigners.
The incident was reported at 4:20 a.m., with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) bringing the blaze under control by 5:27 am and fully extinguishing it by 6:00 a.m.
The Commander of the MNDF’s Malé Fire Station, confirmed that no injuries or significant property damage occurred. However, as a precaution, nearby buildings were flooded, and residents were evacuated. He commended the swift and coordinated efforts of the police and local residents, noting their valuable assistance in the firefighting operation.
The NDMA has arranged temporary accommodation and meals for 22 individuals, including all 14 Maldivians and eight foreigners from five households.
One migrant family has been relocated to temporary accommodation, while 11 other foreign nationals have been supported by their respective employers.
