The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) reported a 6 per cent increase in international flights to Velana International Airport (VIA) in 2024, with 16,830 flights recorded compared to 15,883 in 2023. This growth was driven by a rise in both scheduled and general flights, alongside an increase in foreign airlines operating in the Maldives. In line with the tourism boom, the country welcomed 2.04 million tourists in 2024, with the Government targeting 2.5 million arrivals in 2025 through extensive promotional efforts.
