Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed has reaffirmed the Government's commitment to preserving the historical and cultural landmarks of Haa Alifu Baarah during a visit to the island.

As part of her tour, the minister inspected heritage sites in Utheemu, Thakandhoo and Baarah, where she reviewed ongoing conservation efforts and preparations for this year's National Day celebrations.

She also met with the Baarah Council to discuss the progress of heritage preservation projects and plans for protecting the island's historical assets.

The minister said the Government aims to work closely with local councils and communities to establish a sustainable system to manage and preserve Baarah's ancient monuments, including its historic mosque and other culturally significant sites.

Among the projects currently underway are the upgrading of Kamanaa Magu, restoration work at Kalhuoffumi, and the development of Vaaruge, with all works expected to be completed ahead of National Day.

During the visit, Minister Heena also toured several important historical locations, including Olhufathi Koaru, the former site of Kalhuoffumi, the landmark Berebedhi trees, the island's mangrove areas and the historic Friday Mosque, highlighting the importance of protecting the island's cultural heritage alongside ongoing development.
