Aasandha served over 1 million people in 2024

More than 1 million people benefited from the Aasandha scheme in 2024, with a total of 1,100,319 individuals receiving healthcare services both domestically and abroad. The scheme’s total expenditure for the year reached MVR 3.38 billion.
Throughout the year, 9,195 individuals were sent abroad for specialised medical treatment, while 5,450 medical evacuations were conducted locally to transfer patients between islands for emergency healthcare services.
The highest expenditure was recorded in the third quarter, amounting to MVR 903 million, an 8.4 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2023. In contrast, the fourth quarter saw a decline in spending, with MVR 817 million spent, marking a 4.3 per cent decrease from the previous year.
In a recent development, the Government has expanded the Aasandha scheme to include medical services in Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), starting from January 15, 2025.
