PGO files six charges against former Bright Minds owner

The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has filed six charges against Ali Aflah, the former owner of the Bright Minds tuition centre.

Ali Aflah, 27,, was arrested under a court order on 11 February and remanded in police custody for 30 days.

The PGO announced on Saturday that six charges were filed against Aflah on Tuesday. The charges include three counts of engaging in a sexual act with a Mahram, one count of grooming a minor with the intent of sexual abuse, one count of engaging in a sexual act with a minor whilst in a position of trust, and one count of obstruction of justice.

Following the emergence of the allegations, Aflah evaded authorities by remaining abroad for an extended period. He was arrested upon his return to the Maldives at the airport, having arrived on a flight from Mumbai, India.

Aflah remains in custody pending the outcome of his trial.
