President Dr Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurated Dharumavantha Hospital as a tertiary-level hospital during a ceremony held this evening.

As part of the inauguration, the President unveiled the logo of the newly formed Malé City Group of Hospitals. The ceremony included the opening of a National Fertility Centre and a hybrid cardiac catheterisation lab, alongside the announcement that the hospital’s emergency room would now be dedicated to paediatric care.

During the event, attendees viewed a video presentation showcasing the newly introduced services at Dharumavantha Hospital. Following this, the President toured the fertility center, the specialised pediatric ER, and the catheterisation lab, where he inquired about the services provided in each department.

Dharumavantha Hospital, a 25 storey facility built near the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), has faced criticism for being underutilised over the past five years. This lack of use led to significant damage to its medical equipment, necessitating costly repairs. With its reopening, the hospital now offers state-of-the-art services aimed at elevating the quality of healthcare in the Maldives.

The announcement builds on the President's earlier pledge, made during the Republic Day ceremony at Dharubaaruge on November 10, to upgrade both Dharumavantha Hospital and Hulhumalé Hospital to tertiary level facilities as part of broader healthcare reforms.

The President is set to inaugurate Hulhumalé Hospital as well, marking another milestone in the Government’s efforts to enhance healthcare access and infrastructure across the nation.
