President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the Maldives is poised for a financial transformation as the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) begins introducing digital currency.
He made the remark at the Maldives National University graduation ceremony.
This move aligns with the President’s goal to make 15 percent of the Maldives’ GDP digital.
President Dr Muizzu emphasised that the initial stages of incorporating cryptocurrency and digital currency are already underway under the MMA’s guidance. A special law will also be introduced to ensure transparency, security, and alignment with international standards.
The President highlighted that digital currency will open new opportunities for Maldivian youth and skilled artisans, supporting entrepreneurship and innovation. He also expressed a vision to position the Maldives as a global leader in artificial intelligence and technology, making digital currency an essential part of the country’s future economic landscape.
