The National Fishermen's Registry, launched in February, has registered 2,260 fishermen to date — approximately 80% of the Maldives' fishing vessel operators.

This Government initiative aims to recognise fishermen's income-generating activities, create a streamlined system for delivering Government benefits, and formalise fishermen's work to enable access to financial assistance.

While the Fisheries Act 2019 mandated establishing this registry, implementation began only recently. This is the first time that an official Registry of fishermen has been established at the national level in the Maldives.

Fishermen can now register through the Keyolhu Portal.
