Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adan has submitted his retirement from his position with honour. 

The Chief Justice has officially submitted his retirement to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). The JSC will review this matter and decide whether to grant his resignation. 

Addressing the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed lawyers in February, he indicated his intention to retire. 

Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan has served the longest under the current constitution.  

The Chief Justice submitted his resignation when the Judicial Service Commission had requested Parliament to remove two judges of the court following an investigation.

Justice Muthasim’s distinguished legal career includes serving as Director of the Legal Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 2001. He then served as Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the Maldives College of Higher Education from 2001 to 2005. From 2005 to 2010, he was a partner at Clipper & Galleon Law Associates. 

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Buckingham (1992) and a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) from the University of Glasgow (1994).
