Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has stated that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu does not intend to change the voting system through the Maldives 2.0 digitalisation process. 

Minister Ihusaan made this statement while speaking at the closing ceremony of the ‘Maldives 2.0 Digital Transformation Summit’. His remarks come amid circulating claims that the project’s main objective is to alter the voting system.

He explained that during the President’s visit to Estonia, Estonian officials stated that citizens there have the option to vote digitally in addition to using traditional paper ballots. However, the President made it clear during the trip that his vision does not include introducing a digital voting system in the Maldives.

The Minister further clarified that the current Administration has no plans to implement e-voting, noting that the idea originated under the previous government.
