Parliament concludes first session of the year, enters recess

The Parliament has concluded its first session of the year and has now entered recess. 

The last sitting of the session was held on Thursday and lasted until the evening. 

Concluding the session, the Speaker of Parliament, Abdulraheem Abdullah, announced that 32 sittings were held and a total of 58 hours spent during this session. 

During this session, 193 Committee meetings were held, and members spent a total of 139 hours and 30 minutes. 

He further stated that nine bills were passed during this session, including several important ones. Including:

  • Immigration Act Amendment Bill
  • Tobacco Control Act Amendment Bill
  • Gang Crimes Prevention Act Amendment Bill

The Speaker expressed gratitude to the members for their commitment to the work of the House.
