The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has stated that materials required to complete the Addu City Link Road project have now been delivered to Addu City, with the company aiming to complete the work within the scheduled deadline.

Speaking to MMTV, RDC said all materials required for the repairing and upgrading the Link Road have already been sent to Addu. The company noted that efforts are underway to accelerate progress on the project, adding that all necessary survey works have now been completed.

RDC said current works involve relocating trees and vegetation from areas where road expansion and additional lanes will be developed.

The materials transported to Addu include heavy machinery and other key equipment required for the project. The company reiterated that its target is to complete the project within the agreed timeframe.

The project is being carried out with a State budget exceeding MVR 829 million. RDC was contracted to complete the project within three years and 11 months.

The project includes works on three roads, covering the development of 67.58 kilometres of roadway. Drainage systems will also be established along the roads.

In addition, the project includes laying an additional asphalt layer on existing roads, as well as removing stone surfaces from roads currently covered with gravel and paving them with asphalt.

The works are scheduled to be carried out across Hithadhoo, Feydhoo, Maradhoo, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo in Addu Atoll.

Under the redevelopment of the Addu Link Road, plans include laying a 150-millimetre crushed base thickness (CBT) layer and a 40-millimetre asphalt layer. Existing entrances and asphalt surfaces will also be removed, while cleaning and clearing works will be carried out in areas designated for the four-lane highway.
