President reaffirms commitment to sports development on World Football Day

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to developing football and promoting healthy living in the Maldives in a message marking World Football Day.

In a post shared on his official X account, President Dr Muizzu extended greetings to football fans and described football as a game that brings people together across the world.

The President stated that the Administration remains committed to advancing sports development in the country through infrastructure expansion and policy reforms.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to develop and upgrade football facilities across the Maldives, including the establishment of FIFA-standard football grounds.

President Dr Muizzu also noted that the Government had amended the Sports Act to further decentralise sports development throughout the country.

In addition, he said efforts are underway to create opportunities for the Maldives to host international football tournaments, with the aim of strengthening the country’s sporting culture and providing greater international exposure for Maldivian athletes.

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also echoed the sentiments expressed by President Dr Muizzu in a message marking World Football Day.

In a post shared on her official X account, the First Lady stated that football is more than just a sport, highlighting its role in bringing together people of different ages and backgrounds while promoting healthier and happier lives.

The First Lady also noted that football teaches discipline, teamwork and respect for rules, while helping shape responsible citizens.

She further expressed hope that sports such as football would continue to help build peace, strengthen communities and inspire young people to dream bigger for a better and more sustainable future.
