Government open to industry collaboration on environmental oversight: Minister Thoriq

Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has affirmed the Government's readiness to work closely with the industry to strengthen the issuance of environment permits in the Maldives.

The Minister made the remarks following a panel discussion held as part of the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) Member Forum. The session focused on addressing regulatory challenges related to environmental impacts, particularly within the tourism sector.

In his closing remarks, Minister Thoriq stated that strengthening the environment permit system is a vital step for both the continued growth of the tourism industry and the protection of the Maldives' delicate environment.

Now in its third edition, the MATI Member Forum brought together environmental experts and tourism industry leaders to share insights on sustainability, regulatory challenges, and ways to align tourism growth with environmental protection.

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment stated that the Minister's remarks reflect the Government's commitment to safeguarding the environment. The Ministry also stressed the importance of public-private partnership in advancing environmental protection efforts.
